Add or subtract dates

Find a date a few days, weeks, months or years from where you start.

What happens at the end of a month?

Adding months or years keeps the day of the month when possible. If that day does not exist, we use the last day of the new month: 31 January plus one month becomes 28 February in a non-leap year. A week means seven calendar days. Business days and holidays are not included.

EXAMPLES & HELP

How to add or subtract days, months and years

Find a date before or after a starting date without counting through a calendar by hand. Choose days or weeks for a fixed number of calendar days. Choose months or years when you mean a calendar anniversary.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose a starting date and whether to add or subtract.
  2. Enter a whole number, then choose days, weeks, months or years.
  3. Select Calculate date. Check the month-end adjustment note when moving by months or years.

Worked examples

Add a month to January 31

Start with
31 January 2024 + 1 month.
Result
Thursday, 29 February 2024

February has no 31st. The calculator uses the last valid day of the destination month, which is February 29 in this leap year. Adding a month is different from adding 30 days.

Move a leap-day anniversary forward

Start with
29 February 2024 + 1 year.
Result
Friday, 28 February 2025

There is no February 29 in 2025, so calendar arithmetic clamps this result to February 28. For an age calculation that lets you choose March 1 instead, use My age.

Common questions

Is adding one month the same as adding 30 days?

No. Calendar months have different lengths. Starting on January 31, moving by one month reaches the end of February, while moving by 30 days can reach March.

Does this skip weekends or public holidays?

No. Days and weeks include every calendar date. Use the working-day calculator for a schedule that excludes chosen weekends or holidays.

Will subtracting a month undo a month-end adjustment?

Not always. Once January 31 has been adjusted to February 28, subtracting one month from that result gives January 28. Keep the original date if you need to calculate several anniversaries from the same starting point.
