Days between dates

Find how many calendar days separate two dates, with an option to count both dates.

Examples & help
Calculate days between two dates

Enable JavaScript to calculate. Your dates stay on this device.

Completed months and years count same-day anniversaries. 31 January to 28 February is zero completed months, but crosses one month boundary. For a leap-day start, a completed year requires reaching March in a non-leap year. Reversed ranges use the same magnitude with a negative sign.

How are the days counted?

These are calendar days, so daylight-saving changes do not add or remove a day. By default, the start date is excluded: Monday to Tuesday is one day. Count both dates for a two-day inclusive range. If the end date comes first, the result clearly says “earlier”.

EXAMPLES & HELP

How to calculate days between two dates

Use a date difference to plan a trip, measure a project or find how many days remain until an event. This calculator counts Gregorian calendar dates. A calendar-day count does not require a birth time, clock time or time zone.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose the start and end dates using the calendars. You can also open Edit date fields to enter a month, day and full year.
  2. Choose whether to include both dates. Leave it off for the gap between dates; turn it on to count every date in the range.
  3. Select Calculate difference and check the day count, full weeks and remaining days.

Worked examples

A range that includes February 29

Start with
Start: 28 February 2024. End: 1 March 2024.
Result
2 days between dates; 3 dates when both endpoints count.

The two steps are February 28 to February 29, then February 29 to March 1. An inclusive count also includes the starting date.

A one-week trip

Start with
Start: 10 September 2026. End: 17 September 2026.
Result
7 days, or 1 full week. Including both dates gives 8 dates.

The gap is useful for nights away or elapsed calendar days. Count both dates when you need to list every day an activity touches.

Common questions

Does counting both dates add one day?

Yes. For a forward range, the inclusive count is the date gap plus one. A range that starts and ends on the same date has a gap of zero days but contains one date.

Does daylight saving change this answer?

No. This tool counts calendar dates, not hours. Two consecutive local midnights can be separated by 23 or 25 hours around a clock change. Use a time-zone-aware countdown when you need elapsed hours.

Can I exclude Saturdays, Sundays and holidays?

Use Count working days for that. The calendar-day tool includes every date, including weekends and February 29. Reversing the dates gives a negative gap; the inclusive total remains a positive count of dates.
